BASTE Southern Fried Green Tomatoes
- 4 to 5 green tomatoes
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons corn meal
- 2 tablespoons BASTE Booster
- 2 eggs, beaten
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Slice the tomatoes into ½ inch thick slices. Set aside on a plate or tray.
- In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, corn meal and BASTE Booster. Mix until blended together smoothly.
- Place the beaten eggs in another shallow bowl.
- Dip each tomato slice into the egg mixture, then lightly coat it with the dry mixture. Make sure that each slice is fully covered in breading mixture before moving on to the next slice.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom of the pan (about ¼ inch deep). Once heated, add a few slices of battered tomatoes at a time but don’t overcrowd them as they need room to cook evenly and crisp up nicely!
- Fry for about 3 minutes per side, flipping once halfway through cooking time until both sides are golden brown and crispy! Remove from heat and place fried tomatoes on paper towels or a cooling rack to remove any excess oil before serving!
